00:31:01 Anubhav: Greetings all, excited to attend this forum. I’d love to join SRS
00:31:25 Layton Miller: Same here, first time participant. Can probably only do the first half of this but am excited to be here.
00:31:54 James Newton: Super happy that y’all still do these online.
00:34:13 Layton Miller: Is that supposed to be 8/5?
00:34:22 Layton Miller: since 7/5 has already passed.
00:38:19 Chas: chas@snocomakers.org
00:40:39 Layton Miller: Is there a discord for this group?
00:41:00 Layton Miller: or other applicable forum
00:41:28 James Newton: I would LOVE to see a discord for this group! There are so many great discord servers for tech subjects, but the ones for robots tend tobe a bit lame.

01:43:48 James Newton: Reminds me of LAMPS on SH-60 “Seahawlk” helicopters in heavy sea states landing on ships. But in that case, it was being pulled down by a cable. This is tracking the platform and landing on it’s own. Why not just pull with the cable?
01:44:25 Layton Miller: Seems to me more like a capabilities thing. Rather than reeling it in you’re developing a more capable system that you could actually run w/o a tether?

01:50:21 James Newton: Such a great point about people reinventing the wheel each time. But then if you build a wheel, it’s also important to make it /actually/ open source, in the sense that the source is well documented and making it possible for people to contribute improvements or make small changes to enable their own efforts.

01:58:09 James Newton: The biggest problem I’ve had with ROS1 is that it’s tied to specific Linux versions. Can ROS2 decouple from the OS version as well as from the OS type (Linux, Win, etc…)?
