Craig Austin Bio
Craig is a self described unemployed bum. He has an Associate Degree in Electronics Engineering Technology. He worked for National Semiconductor in the late 80’s as Engineering Tech doing electrical characterization and failure analysis of microchips. He then did a stint for a few years at the Lazy B as a laser safety tech, then an electronic tech doing calibration and repair of electronic test and measurement equipment. By that time, he realized that electronics was a great hobby but a lousy career so he crossed the line into computer programming and data analysis. He worked for Group Health Cooperative for 7 years, first as a SAS Programmer and Systems Analyst and later as their Data Warehouse Director. After getting bored leading others to develop data warehouse subject areas and deploy point and click tools for extracting and analyzing data, he went to work for Russell Investments for another 17 years. At Russell, first as a SAS Programmer, he developed web applications that portfolio managers and research analysts used to analyze fund managers and portfolios across the globe. in 2018 Craig retired at the age of 53 as Russell’s Global Director of Business Intelligence. Since then, he’s been living the dream as a jack of all trades, doing his own home and vehicle maintenance and repairs, managing a 60+ acre forest and enjoying how much easier and inexpensive it is to be an electronic hobbyist now compared to what it was in the late 80’s. He’s completed a variety of RC, microcomputer and microcontroller based projects, always has a few in progress and has ideas and aspirations for many more than time will allow.
